Troy's Story
Troy is a sweet black cat who survived major trauma. Asa kitten, Troy was thrown from a vehicle on a busy four-lane road—tossed out like trash.
With a broken leg and weighing under 1 pound, he managed to drag himself across the street to a wooded lot. The community came together to show concern for this kitten.
After 10 days and 40 hours of waiting, rescuers (including Ryan Collins) managed to trap Troy and take him to the animal hospital. His leg was placed in a cast that looked huge for his tiny size. For the next few months, Troy was confined so he could heal. He began to feel safe and loved. He now lives happily with the rescue nonprofit SCOOP.

About Our Founder
Troy's Trash Service was established in 2025 by Ryan Collins, director of The Scratching Post shelter in Cincinnati. Ryan knew from an early age that animal welfare was his passion—so it's no wonder that over half of his lifetime has been devoted to helping animals. At age 13, Ryan adopted his beloved dog, Dingo, from Animal Friends Humane Society, the Butler county animal shelter. Dingo was by his side for over a decade. At age 17, that same county animal shelter hired him, where he worked for the next 10 years.
Ryan has always worked in multiple care-related roles simultaneously. He is a licensed dialysis technician and worked in that field for three years while also working at nursing homes, where he truly enjoyed his work with the elderly. Even during time in this field, Ryan was heavily involved in colony caretaking and trap/neuter/return (TNR) of free-roaming cats. Ryan began volunteering for SCOOP cat rescue while he was in his early 20s, after contacting them for assistance with an extremely sick cat. He then went to work at a huge animal sanctuary in St. Paris, Ohio, for six years.
In 2022, Ryan was offered the position of executive director at The Scratching Post, where he currently serves. In addition, Ryan continues to volunteer for SCOOP. He has implemented various innovative programs and is an advocate of special-needs animals. His own home is never without cats and dogs.
Ryan’s trash business is a way for him to continue funding the care of animals in these and related organizations.
